WILD Mission Statement

Women in Labor Daze holds as its core belief that Mothers everywhere should be honored for one simple fact: every human who ever lived on Earth spent some time inside of a woman. We come together to celebrate Mothers and their steadfast willingness to create, nurture and sustain life and build strong communities. When women unite, there is much we can accomplish.

WILD Origins

It all started with birth. In 2007 Kirsti Kreutzer and Anna Van Wagoner got together and produced a play by Karen Brody called Birth. The play was so much fun they wanted to do it again—click here for more info about the play—but they wanted more...

Giving birth is one of the more popular routes to becoming a Mother; however there is so much more to being a mother than giving birth! Motherhood is a big job. Labor begins with a tightening sensation in the belly, but the labor of Motherhood does not end with birth. There is so much more—feeding, teaching, nurturing, the labors are endless.

How do women do all this and do it all so well? Not only does this labor need to be celebrated, but it needs to be supported. Wilmington needs more than an awesome play about birth to celebrate Motherhood. We need to laugh, be entertained, be inspired. We need comedy, music, and art. We need to all come together and talk, share, support, inspire. We need to bring all the people helping Mothers together, so that Mothers can see the support that is already there. We need a whole festival.

Kirsti took this vision to the YWCA and Women's Studies and Resource Center at UNCW. They responded with an enthusiastic "Let's do it!" From this group of amazing women WILD was conceived. We hope you will join us for the birth!

Funds raised in excess of festival costs will be donated to the YWCA to benefit such programs as the Women's Leadership Initiative for Women under 30, and Mommy-preneurs.
